“This is amazing! I feel incredible! Yes! I can win! I feel great! I can do this!”
— Piccolo (Dragon Ball Z)
Although this quote references physical strength in Piccolo’s case, it can also be applied to our mental and emotional health. Even if life brings stressors that we struggle to work through, we fortunately do not have to do it alone. Therapy with the right therapist can bring a similar feeling of confidence and optimism that this quote inspires.
Whether I am working with an individual, a couple, or a whole family, my goal is to help develop empathy in clients, encouraging them to cultivate positive regard toward one another and toward themselves in the therapeutic space. First and foremost, I make sure clients feel safe in therapy so that they can express themselves genuinely and freely.
My therapeutic approach conceptualizes each client holistically through exploring their family system, ethnicity, culture, religious practices, socioeconomic status, and self-image. Together, we identify patterns, intrusive thoughts, and stressors that may be impacting daily life, and collaborate on effective, sustainable strategies for long-term change.
A little about me: I graduated from Western Michigan University with a master’s degree in marriage, couple, and family counseling and a bachelor’s degree in behavioral science (Go Broncos!). I also served six years in the United States Army, and I have experience working with children in daycare and middle-school settings.
I am currently a Limited Licensed Professional Counselor (LLPC) and a Limited Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LLMFT). I currently offer therapy at Meredith Psychological & Testing Services where I am under the direct supervision of Dr. Julie Meredith Davis, Ph.D., LP. I am accepting new clients online and at our office in Kalamazoo. To schedule an appointment, please call the main office at 269-459-1818.
